Author of Poker Nation Andy Bellin was actually named Andrey Della Croce Bellin. He played his first hand of poker when he was eight.

Bellin studied physics and astronomy at Wesleyan University, but dropped out after spending a large part of his time at Foxwoods Casino. His father when asked, refers to him as a failed astrophysicist.

He went back to New York and tried out various jobs before joining The Paris Review, where he is now an editor. In 1997 Bellin was asked by Chance magazine to write a piece on playing poker at casinos. The article caught the attention of Ken Kurson of Esquire, who suggested he write a book on the subject. And that was the genesis of the excellent book, Poker Nation

Poker Nation is an entertaining read, full of anecdotes, but also littered with helpful poker playing advice.
