Wilson's poker students included celebrities Matthew Stevens, Barry Hearn, Phil Taylor, and Michael Greco. All four have picked up decent poker prize money in their own right.
Mad Marty Wilson was reported to play a sound style in spite of his nickname, which was given to him when he was a teenager when he chose to escape from rival football fans through a bear pit.
He appeared in every series of Channel 4's Late Night Poker (1999-2002).
As well as playing Texas Hold 'Em, Wilson had some good results with Omaha. In January 2005 he picked up A$ 29,535 in the Pot Limit Omaha, Crown Australia Championships.
Back in 1999, Marty Wilson had a $68,000 NLH win at the 1999 Carnival of Poker.
He dies in 2019, aged 62.
