Shane Parrish's Biography
Shane Parrish is an entrepreneur, investor, and the man behind the popular website Farnam Street, where he shares insights for improving life and business.
He is also the founding partner of Syrus Partners, a holding company that acquires and operates businesses in North America.
Parrish's journey to becoming a wisdom seeker started in his youth. After a difficult period, he discovered the transformative power of reading.
A book called "The Stopwatch Gang" captivated him, leading him to change.
A passion for reading eventually led him to create Farnam Street, initially a personal website for tracking his learning about decision-making, inspired by Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger., whose company Berkshire Hathaway operated from 3555 Farnam Street, Omaha, NE 68131. Hence, the name Farnam Street.
Before going full-time on Farnam Street, Shane Parrish was a computer scientist heralding from Halifax, Nova Scotia. In August 2001, after studying at Dalhousie University, he joined the Communications Security Establishment, a division of Canada’s Defence Department.
His popular "Brain Food" weekly newsletter reaches a vast audience, and his podcast, The Knowledge Project, often featuring interviews with leading authorities, is also hugely popular.
He is a single father of two children, sharing custody with his ex-wife, and emphasises the significance of spending quality time with them.
In 2020, he became a board member of Tiny.
His book Clear Thinking: Turning Ordinary Moments into Extraordinary Results was widely acclaimed.
