In 2007, Sara Mendes da Costa took over from Brian Cobby as the voice of the speaking clock.

Sara Mendes da Costa was a 40-year-old from Brighton, when she was chosen from around 18,500 entries to be the fourth long-term voice of BT's speaking clock service.

Before becoming the speaking clock, Sara Mendes de Costa worked as a telemarketer and part-time voiceover artist. She was also an aspiring writer and had written a novel, for which she was seeking a publisher.

The BBC article, Woman becomes new voice of clock, reported that the BT speaking clock has been keeping time for 70 years and still receives more than 70 million calls each year.

The Telegraph has audio files of Sara Mendes da Costa and the other finalists to be the speaking clock.
