Who is Michael Rimmer?
Liverpool John Moores University Sports Scholar Michael Rimmer studies history but is more prominent as a talented 800 metres runner.In July 2003 Rimmer finished fourth in the World Youth Olympics in Canada.
The 20 year-old (as at 2006), from Liverpool, ran 1: 45.47 over 800m at the British Milers Club Grand Prix in June 2006 - and thus ranked 22nd on the all time English list of 800m runners.
Rimmer finished second in the event in Watford just behind Richard Hill.
On July 16, 2006 in the Norwich Union European Trials, Michael Rimmer turned the tables on Hill. Rimmer thus became the first person to win AAA of England titles in 800m at Under 15, Under 17, Under 20 and senior level.
Rimmer's mentor, Dr Neil Chester says: "Michael has proved that he is a world-class runner ..."
Rimmer is part of a renaissance of British middle-distance running. As well as himself and Richard Hill, Sam Ellis and Tom Lancashire also show promise.
At the start of 2007 Michael Rimmer was ranked 31st in the world and second in the UK, just behind Richard Hill in the 800m.
He won silver in the 2010 European Championships.
