Who is Geri Horner?

Geri Halliwell, also known as Geri Horner or Ginger Spice, was born on 6 August 1972 in Watford, Hertfordshire.

She went to Watford Girls Grammar School. She also studied English literature in the UK whilst at weekends she went to Istanbul to work as a TV presenter when she was 21.

In her time, Geri Halliwell has been a club dancer in Majorca, a TV presenter in Turkey, an aerobics instructor, a cleaner, a barmaid, and a topless model. That's not to mention Geri Halliwell's role in The Spice Girls as Ginger Spice, whose debut single, Wannabe was released in 1996. The other Spice Girls were Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, and Victoria Beckham.

The girl band became the pop phenomenon of the late 1990s with popular singles including "Say You'll Be There" and "2 Become 1". The Spice Girls also starred in a 1997 film "Spiceworld".

In 1998 Geri Halliwell split from The Spice Girls. Amid rumours of ructions, she left in May (although she did feature on the August hit, "Viva Forever"). Geri Halliwell launched a successful solo career with four number ones. Her debut single in May 1999 was "Look At Me".

Her image changed and she also became a UN Goodwill ambassador. She published her autobiography, If Only. Soon after she wrote her second book, "Geri Halliwell, Geri: Just for the Record", which discussed her battle against bulimia.

In 2004 Geri Halliwell resumed her solo career with "Ride It". In an interview with Jonathan Ross, she talked about her attitude to the opposite sex: "As I've got older I've got to trust my instinct a bit more. I'm interested in the man himself... I've dated a lot... I like a real male, an alpha male. I think we're designed to be with the perfect mate."

In May 2006, Geri Halliwell gave birth to a girl. The baby's father is reported to be Hollywood scriptwriter Sacha Gervasi, who was introduced to Geri by Robbie Williams. They dated in 2005 but split after only six weeks.

In 2008, starting on May 2, Geri Halliwell had her Ugenia Lavender children's books published by Macmillan in a six book deal, following the adventures of nine-year-old Ugenia and her friends.

In August 2009, The Mail reported how Geri Halliwell celebrated her birthday with boyfriend Henry Beckwith.

In September 2009, the United Nations Population Fund, of which Geri Halliwell is a goodwill ambassador, launched a campaign to stop violence against women in Nepal. Geri Halliwell visited Nepal to highlight the effects of maternal death and injuries.

In 2015, she married Christian Horner.

In 2016 it was announced that Geri Horner (as she became known) was to team up with Mel B and Emma Bunton to form a new group GEM.

In January 2017, she gave birth to her second child (the first with Christian Horner).

Her son Montague Geroge Hector Horner was partly named after George Michael, who died shortly before Geri gave birth.

On 25 January 2017, the BBC announced that it had commissioned Geri Horner to front a documentary series with the title Geri’s 1990s: My Drive To Freedom.

In November 2017, the BBC announced that Geri Horner was joining the new entertainment show All Together Now as head of the 100 (the panel of musical experts and performers who can stand up and sing along, if they like the contestant’s song).

In 2019, the Spice Girls, without Victoria Beckham, had a reunion tour.

In July 2019, it was confirmed that BBC Three's RuPaul’s Drag Race UK would have Geri Horner as a guest judge.
