Paris Whitney Hilton was born in February 1981 in New York.

Paris was born into the Hilton dynasty. She and her sister Nicky are high profile 'socialites'.

Paris Hilton has had film and modelling roles, including, in 2005, acting in the remake of the 1950s horror film, House of Wax.

In November 2003, Paris Hilton attracted widespread interest when a home video of her sexual exploits with former boyfriend, Rick Salomon, ex-husband of Shannon Doherty and husband-to-be of Pamela Anderson, was published online.

Paris Hilton, together with Nicole Richie, featured in the very popular reality TV show, The Simple Life.

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie (Lionel Richie's daughter) were close friends but in Spring 2005, Paris Hilton acknowledged that there had been a rift, saying:

"Its no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends. I will not go into the details of what happened. All I will say is that Nicole knows what she did and that's all I am ever going to say about it."

Nevertheless, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie reconciled.

Paris Hilton has published a memoir, 'Confessions of an Heiress: A Tongue-in-Chic Peek Behind the Pose'.

On May 31, 2005 it was announced that Paris Hilton was going to marry her boyfriend of nine months, Greek shipping tycoon, Paris Latsis, however five months later they called off the engagement.

In 2006 Paris Hilton, who says she looks up to Madonna, Blondie and Gwen Stefani, released 'Stars are Blind', which became a top 10 hit in the UK.

In May 2007, Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail after being found guilty of violating her probation for a drink-driving conviction.

She had been pulled up for driving without headlights.

A strange set of events followed. Initially, it seemed that Paris Hilton would serve just three days, after she was released by LA county sheriff Lee Baca on unspecified medical grounds, however, the judge overturned the sheriff's decision and insisted that Hilton would have to serve her full 45-day sentence.

In the end, Paris Hilton was released after serving 23 days. She told Larry King she kept a daily journal with notes like:

"They say when you reach a crossroad or a turning point in life, it really doesn't matter how we got there, but what we do next after we got there. Usually we arrive there by adversity, and then it is then, and only then, that we find out who we truly are and what we're truly made of. It's a process, a gift and a journey. And if we can travel it alone, although the road may be rough at the beginning, you find an ability to walk it, a way to start fresh again. It's neither a downfall nor a failure, but a new beginning."

In August 2008, ITV2 announced that they has signed up Paris Hilton for a show with the working title Paris Hilton's New Best Friend, which sees her come to London to look for a 'best friend forever' in the UK.
