Jennifer Lopez's Biography

Jennifer Lopez was born on 24 July 1969 in the Bronx, New York.

Her major breakthrough came in 1990 as one of the 'Fly Girls' in the comedy sketch show 'In Living Color'.

J-Lo's first major movie was 'Money Train', which she followed up with a role in 'My Family, Mi Familia'.

Jennifer Lopez was then cast as Latin singer Selena Quintanilla in the biopic, Selena. Her performance led to her role opposite George Clooney in the acclaimed film, 'Out of Sight' and she became the highest paid Latin actress in history.

J-Lo's commercial success as a singer began in 1999 with the album 'On the 6'. Jennifer Lopez followed up with 'Waiting For Tonight', which featured a duet with the man who was to become her future husband, Marc Anthony. By 2005 J-Lo had sold over 35 million records worldwide.

Jennifer Lopez has regularly topped magazine polls as the world's sexiest woman, and she has not been short of love interest.

Having had a failed marriage to waiter Ojani Noa, J-Lo had a relationship with rapper Sean 'Puffy' Combs, now known as Diddy. They split up early in 2001 and later that year she married dancer Cris Judd. It was not to last.

In August 2007, the BBC reported that Jennifer Lopez was awarded $545,000 in a claim against her first husband, Ojani Noa, who had intended publishing a book claiming J-Lo had several affairs.

In 2007, Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd were up against each other in the TV schedules. J-Lo executive produced and took an on-screen role in MTV's Dancelife, whilst Cris Judd was on Dirty Dancing.

Jennifer Lopez had a long relationship, under the glare of publicity with Ben Affleck, with whom she co-starred in 'Jersey Girl' and 'Gigli'. But that failed at the final hurdle when they cancelled their planned wedding.

In June 2004, J-Lo married Marc Anthony.

In May 2005, Jennifer Lopez starred in Monster-in-Law, which topped the US box office charts. It co-starred Jane Fonda.

Jennifer Lopez has interests outside her films and music, including a clothing range and a couple of perfumes.

Lopez came 24th in the Forbes list of the most powerful celebrities 2005 - just four spots behind her ex, Diddy.

In February 2006, Jennifer Lopez, supported DKMS in urging America's Hispanics to become bone marrow donors in a bid to save the life of Janet Ovalles.

In February 2007 it was reported that Jennifer Lopez will receive the Artists for Amnesty award from Amnesty International for her roles as producer and actress in Bordertown, which is about the murders of hundreds of women in a Mexican border town.

Jennifer Lopez was listed in Playboy's 25 Sexiest Celebrities in 2007.

In July 2007, it was announced that Jennifer Lopez was planning her first concert tour of US, Canada and Puerto Rico together with her husband Marc Anthony.

In October 2007, Jennifer Lopez released her sixth album, Brave.

In February 2008, Jennifer Lopez gave birth to twins: a girl, Emme, and a boy, Max.

In April 2008, it was announced that Jennifer Lopez would appear in her own reality TV series on The Learning Channel.

In September 2010, it was announced that Jennifer Lopez would be a judge on the 10th series of American Idol.

In 2011, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony announced they were getting divorced.

Nevertheless, they remained friends and, in November 2016, at the Latin Grammy Awards she presented an award to him, saying:

"Marc, you are a living legend who has laid bare your heart and soul on your musical journey.

"We've learned so much and we've grown so much, and you've always been so many things in my life: My mentor, a twin soul, a father who's not only the person of the year, he's the person of all time."

In July 2012, she revealed that she was giving up her role as a judge on American Idol, however she was only a year away from the show, as she announced in September 2013, that she was rejoining American Idol as a judge.

Subsequent acting credits included the TV drama series Shades of Blue and the film Hustler.

In March 2019 she announced her engagement to baseball star Alex Rodriguez.

In July 2022, it was reported that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez had got back together and married.

However, in August 2024 Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce.
