Who is Rebel Wilson?
Rebel Wilson was born Melanie Wilson on 2 March 1980 in Sydney, Australia.Her mother is a professional dog handler (Rebel herself has a slight allergy to dogs). She has a brother Ryot, and two sisters Liberty and Annachi.
When she was young, Rebel's mother took her to acting classes to deal with her shyness.
Rebel Wilson gained two degrees, one in theatre and performance studies and one in law.
She first came to widespread public attention with supporting roles playing Matt Lucas's sister in Bridesmaids and Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect.
Her other credits include the films Night at the Museum 4, How To Be Single, and Grimsby and she wrote and starred in her own sitcom, Super Fun Night in the USA.
In 2016, she was cast in the lead role of Ursula in a live performance of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, as Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls, and in the film version of Absolutely Fabulous.
In August 2016 it was reported that Rebel Wilson was to star in a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels where the leading characters, played by Michael Caine and Steve Martin in the original would be women characters in the remake.
In September 2017, Rebel Wilson won an Australian record £2.7 million in a defamation case when she won her dispute with Bauer Media.
However, in June 2018, an appeal court significantly reduced the amount awarded.
In 2019, she starred as an architect called Natalie in the Netflix rom-com Isn't It Romantic.
She was also cast as Jennanydots in the film adaptation of Cats and alongside Anne Hathaway in the comedy movie The Hustle.
In 2024, she wrote a book which led to a dispute with Sacha Baron Cohen.
