Ricki Lake was born on 21 September 1968 in New York.
She first came to prominence when she was cast as Tracy Turnblad in the film Hairspray.
At just 24, in 1993, Ricki Lake became a daily talk show host on The Ricki Lake Show.
After 11 seasons, The Ricki Lake Show's run ended in 2005 but returned in 2012 for one more season.
Ricki Lake amassed other acting and hosting credits including taking over from Sharon Osbourne as host of Charm School for a season in 2009.
Lake also competed on the 13th season of Dancing with the Stars, when she and Derek Hough finished third in 2011.
