Joan Collins was born on 23 May 1933 in London.

She is a daughter of show-business agent Joe Collins, who placed a page ad in Spotlight about Joan when she was 17.

After making her film debut in Lady Godiva Rides Again in 1951, Joan Collins was continuously in work over the following decades, without any particular distinction. Many of her roles were in low-budget horror films.

She made more of a name for herself in the early 1980s with The Stud and The Bitch; and she went on to continue the bitchiness as Alexis Colby in TV hit Dynasty.

Joan Collins was in Dynasty for nearly nine years.

Off screen, she followed her sister, best-selling novelist Jackie Collins, writing amongst other books Prime Time(1988) and Too Damn Famous(1994).

As well as her broken-down marriages to Maxwell Reed, Anthony Newley, Ron Kass and Peter Holm, Joan Collins has also had intimate liaisons with Warren Beatty, George Hamilton and Ryan O'Neal.

She went on to marry Percy Gibson.

Joan Collins was a patron of the UK Independence Party, however she told the Spectator regarding the 2005 general election:

"I will be voting Conservative because I think the Labour Party just doesn't care about the British people. I would never dream of voting for UKIP."

Joan Collins lives between London, New York and France.

The end of 2005 saw Joan Collins in the media, as this BBC report explains.

In May 2007, Joan Collins told Graham Norton on his chatshow regarding David Gest's marriage to Liza Minnelli:

"We were taking bets in our pew about how long it would last ... that [wedding] kiss wasn't a kiss, it was like sucking chrome off a Cadillac."

In 2009, Joan Collins recorded a series for ITV entitled Joan Does Glamour in which she advised British women on how to look glamorous without spending too much.

In the New Year's Honours list for 2015, Joan Collins was made a Dame for her services to charity.

In 2017, Joan Collins was cast as Helen in The Time Of Their Lives.
