Jessie J's Biography
Jessie J was born Jessica Cornish in Redbridge on 27 March 1988.
Her father was a social worker.
From the age of 9 to 11 she played Brat in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Whistle Down the Wind in London's West End.
Like her sisters, Hannah and Rachel, Jessie J went to Mayfield High School in Redbridge.
She worked as a hair model for Vidal Sassoon.
Like Amy Winehouse, Katie Melua and Leona Lewis, she studied at the Brit performing arts school.
Jessie J told Blue Peter that she and Adele were in the same year there and they hung out together.
However, Jessie J had a minor stroke and did not graduate. As a child, she had been diagnosed with a hereditary heart defect.
She joined a girl group, Soul Deep, but it did not last long.
She was due to record a solo album but the label, Gut, went out of business.
Before she got to release her own music, Jessie J had success writing for others, including Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, and she wrote Miley Cyrus's hit Party in the USA.
Jessie J's debut single Do It Like a Dude reached number 2 in the charts.
Her debut album, Who You Are, also reached number two in the UK.
Jessie's J's Who You Are generated the number 1 single (with US rapper B.o.B) Price Tag.
In 2011, she won the BBC Sound of 2011 Award, various awards at the Mobos, and a Critics' Choice Brit Award.
In November 2011, it was announced that Jessie J would be a coach on BBC One's new series The Voice UK.
In October 2018, Jessie J was listed as the 17th richest celebrity in the UK aged under 30.
In 2024, Jessie J was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
