Jessie J was born Jessica Cornish in Redbridge on 27 March 1988.

Her father was a social worker.

From the age of 9 to 11 she played Brat in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Whistle Down the Wind in London's West End.

Like her sisters, Hannah and Rachel, Jessie J went to Mayfield High School in Redbridge.

She worked as a hair model for Vidal Sassoon.

Like Amy Winehouse, Katie Melua and Leona Lewis, she studied at the Brit performing arts school.

Jessie J told Blue Peter that she and Adele were in the same year there and they hung out together.

However, Jessie J had a minor stroke and did not graduate. As a child, she had been diagnosed with a hereditary heart defect.

She joined a girl group, Soul Deep, but it did not last long.

She was due to record a solo album but the label, Gut, went out of business.

Before she got to release her own music, Jessie J had success writing for others, including Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, and she wrote Miley Cyrus's hit Party in the USA.

Jessie J's debut single Do It Like a Dude reached number 2 in the charts.

Her debut album, Who You Are, also reached number two in the UK.

Jessie's J's Who You Are generated the number 1 single (with US rapper B.o.B) Price Tag.

In 2011, she won the BBC Sound of 2011 Award, various awards at the Mobos, and a Critics' Choice Brit Award.

In November 2011, it was announced that Jessie J would be a coach on BBC One's new series The Voice UK.

In October 2018, Jessie J was listed as the 17th richest celebrity in the UK aged under 30.

In 2024, Jessie J was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
