Rhod Gilbert's Early Life
Rhod Gilbert was born on 18 October 1968 in Carmarthen in Wales, the son of two teachers Malcolm and Norma.He has two older siblings Geoff and Jane.
Rhod Gilbert went to Model Primary School and Maridunum Comprehensive before graduating with a 2:1 in French and Spanish at Exeter University.
After travelling in Australia and Asia, he worked as an administration assistant for the Welsh Office, before spending eight years in market research.
Rhod Gilbert's Comedy and TV Career
In 2002, he took a stand-up comedy course and it was not long before comedy became his career.In 2005, he was nominated for the Perrier Newcomer award for his first solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Numerous TV credits were to follow including being a regular on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and hosting several series of Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience.
He has also hosted Have I Got News for You?
Rhod Gilbert has hosted his own weekly Saturday morning show for BBC Radio Wales for several years.
In 2016, the BBC announced that Rhod Gilbert was to be the new host of The Apprentice You're Fired.
In 2019, he was succeeded by Tom Allen as host of The Apprentice: You're Fired.
Rhod Gilbert stepped down from the role due to commitments to his live tour.
He was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in June 2022. After undergoing treatment, he received his first clear scan in October 2023.
