Who is Mark Hanretty?

Mark Hanretty, who was born on 21 March 1985 in Glasgow, started skating when he was 10 years old.

Mark free skated for 9 years, and became a junior medallist at the British Championships.

In 2004, Mark Hanretty switched to ice dance. He partnered Lauren Bradshaw and they came second in junior at the British Dance Championships.

Mark Hanretty built a long-standing ice skating partnership with Christina Chitwood starting in December 2005 and represented Great Britain.

In March 2010, the BBC carried an extensive article about Mark Hanretty and Christina Chitwood, however, soon afterwards they decided to retire from competitive skating and became professional ice dancers.

In 2011 Mark Hanretty appeared in his first series of Dancing on Ice. At the time he was 25 years old.

He was paired with Nadia Sawalha.

They were voted off in the first week.

In 2012, Mark Hanretty was paired with Rosemary Conley on ITV's Dancing on Ice. They were voted off in week 6.

In 2013, Mark Hanretty was paired with Oona King on Dancing on Ice. They were the third pair to be voted off the show.

At the time of the 2013 Dancing on Ice series Mark's wife Kathy, a skating instructor, was pregnant.

In November 2017 it was revealed that Mark Hanretty was replacing Lloyd Jones on Dancing on Ice in 2018.

He was paired with Donna Air.

In Dancing on Ice 2019 he was paired with Saira Khan.

They were the fourth couple to be eliminated.

In 2020 he was paired with Libby Clegg.

In 2023, he was paired with Carley Stenson. They were the sixth pair to be voted off.
