The consolidated audience figure of 9.5 million viewers for the first programme of The Great British Bake Off was the channel's highest rating since Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, which had 9.7 million viewers in February 2011.
The series ran for 10 weeks and involved 30 challenges for 12 amateur bakers.
Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig were the new hosts.
Paul Hollywood remained as a judge and was joined by Prue Leith in place of Mary Berry.
The winner was Sophie Faldo.
