Nick Hewer together with Margaret Mountford, who was later replaced by Karren Brady, came to widespread public attention advising Lord Sugar on The Apprentice.

Nick Hewer has had a long association with Alan Sugar, having been responsible for Amstrad's public relations since 1983. Nick Hewer represented Sugar himself as well as his company, Amstrad.

Hewer was born in Swindon and then studied at a Jesuit school in Ireland.

He started in the P.R. business in the 1960s.

He sold his own public relations agency in 1998.

Since retiring from the world of P.R, Nick Hewer has indulged in his passion for travelling and lives with his partner Catherine in France.

In November 2005, The Guardian reported how Nick Hewer told a court that Piers Morgan had asked him to lie about the time Hewer had spoken to a Mirror journalist.

One of Nick Hewer's hobbies is riding one of his vintage tractors.

In 2009, Nick Hewer, who has a penchant for travel, took the second leg together with Saira Khan, in the BBC's Around The World In 80 Days, in which celebrities circumnavigate the globe in 80 days to raise money for BBC Children in Need Appeal.

In November 2011, it was announced that Nick Hewer was to take over from Jeff Stelling as host of Countdown on Channel 4. He would take over the role on Countdown from 9 January 2012.

In December 2014, Nick Hewer announced that having spent 10 years on the show, he had decided to leave The Apprentice, saying:

" ... I leave with relief, tinged with regret. Anyone can do what Karren [Brady] and I have been doing, but it takes stamina to follow the candidates week after week, and my stamina is not up to those long weeks."

In 2022, he took part in the BBC Two series, Pilgrimage.
