Ruthie Henshall's Biography
Ruthie Henshall has amassed numerous acting credits on both sides of the Atlantic including Oliver, Chicago, Crazy for You and She Loves Me, for which she won an Olivier.
She is the daughter of the deputy editor of the London Evening News and a drama teacher.
Ruthie Henshall trained at the Laine Theatre Arts in Surrey.
She suffered abuse as a child and her late teenage years were dogged by health problems during which she had a lump removed from her breast and two cysts removed from her ovaries.
At 19, Ruthie Henshall made her professional debut playing Maggie in A Chorus Line.
Her West End debut was at the New London Theatre in Cats.
Ruthie Henshall was once engaged to the actor John Gordon Sinclair, whom she starred with in She Loves Me.
She also dated Prince Edward and used to be smuggled into Buckingham Palace.
Ruthie Henshall went on to marry the Canadian actor Tim Howar, who is part of the rock group Van Tramp. They met when they both appeared in Peggy Sue Got Married.
Ruthie Henshall has combined her acting career with concerts and albums including The Ruthie Henshall Album, Love is Here to Stay and Pilgrim.
In 2008, Ruthie Henshall became a judge on Dancing on Ice.
In December 2009, The Mirror reported that Ruthie Henshall will return to the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago - a role she last played 11 years previously.
In 2020, she became one of the celebrities on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. She was the second contestant to be voted off.
In 2021, Ruthie Henshall said she had gone from "grief to peace" after finally being allowed to visit her mother in a care home after lockdown rules were eased.
