David Van Day was born on 28 November 1956 in Brighton.

David Van Day and Thereza Bazar made up the duo Dollar, which had 14 hits between 1978 and 1983 including Mirror Mirror, Oh L'Amour and Give Me Back My Heart.

However, he fell on harder times and he told The Guardian regarding the extent of his cocaine habit: "It was like stuffing it down a manhole."

David Van Day had a 15 month stint with Bucks Fizz in 1995 when Mike Nolan left, however Van Day then teamed up with Nolan and toured as Bucks Fizz Dollar, and Bucks Fizz: starring Mike Nolan and co-starring David Van Day, however after a legal battle with founder Bobby G they agreed not to use the name Bucks Fizz.

David Van Day stood as a Conservative candidate in the ward of East Brighton.

He has two daughters Olivia and Amber.

Like Timmy Mallett, David Van Day was a latecomer to I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2008.

David Van Day, who celebrated his 52nd birthday on 28 November 2008 in the jungle, is most famous for singing with Dollar and then his own version of Bucks Fizz.

David Van Day or DVD, as he is sometimes known, narrowly missed the final of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, coming fourth.

At the time of joining I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, David Van Day said:

"I'm single, and I'm ready for love. I don't think you can go and look for love, I think love has to tap you on the shoulder. When you go out looking for it, you never find it, and then before you know it you’re talking to someone and you think hello, she's quite nice. So who knows?"

In February 2010, it was revealed that David Van Day was to marry journalist Sue Moxley on Living TV's reality show Four Weddings.

In November 2010, David Van Day appeared on Celebrity Coach Trip, paired with Tony Blackburn.

In 2016, David Van Day was reportedly 'doing fine' after suffering a heart attack.

In March 2019 he won for the Conservatives a by-election in the Aveley and Upland ward on Thurrock Council in Essex.
