Gillian McKeith was born in Perth, Scotland in 1959.

She grew up in the Scottish Highlands and studied at University of Edinburgh. She then moved to America and gained a masters degree at the University of Pennsylvania and became a presenter of a health interest radio show.

Back in the UK she became known for her books and TV series about nutrition, notably she presented You Are What You Eat on Channel 4, in which she tried to help people to lose weight.

You Are What You Eat and the You Are What You Eat Cookbook were the first and third most borrowed non-fiction titles in the UK in 2005/6.

Her books also include Gillian McKeith's Food Bible: The Complete A-Z Guide To A Healthy Life, which went to Number 1 on the Amazon Bestsellers Chart in April 2008.

In an interview with The Mail Gillian McKeith revealed her back and spine problems.

Gillian McKeith is married to an American lawyer Howard Magaziner. They have two children.

In 2010 Gillian McKeith was one of the celebrities on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. Before the show began she told ITV:

"I am a vegan and I love beans and rice,” she says. “What’s amazing is I don’t even have to cook them in the jungle. Who could ask for better? I am really happy about that. I will be happy to educate the others if they want to learn more about beans and rice!"

After 17 days on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Gillian McKeith became the fifth celebrity to be voted off the show. Previously, she had regularly been voted by the public to do the bushtucker trials and was often to be seen shrieking and screaming.

In January 2016, she made a guest appearance on Celebrity Big Brother to detox the housemates.
