Martha Reeves's Biography
Martha Reeves was born on July 18, 1941 in Eufaula, Alabama.
Her father Elijah, worked for the city Water Department.
She had 10 siblings.
She started off singing solo under the name Martha Lavaile.
At 21, Martha Reeves gave up her job working behind the counter at Wide Cleaners after William Stevenson of Motown had seen her perform and invited her to come to Hitsville USA.
She started there as a secretary. Eventually she became the lead singer of Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.
Their hits included Nowhere to Run, Heat Wave, and Dancing In The Street.
In 2019, Martha Reeves became one of the contestants on Celebrity MasterChef.
Trivia
She served on the Detroit City Council.
