Gareth Gates's Biography
Gareth Gates was born in Bradford on 12 July 1984.
He was head chorister at Bradford Cathedral choir.
He had been awarded a place to study opera at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, but the opportunity to take part in Pop Idol got in the way.
Gareth Gates was runner-up to Will Young on Pop Idol but it did not stop Gates, who was 17 at the time, gaining the record for the youngest British male solo star when his version of Unchained Melody went straight to number one in the UK singles chart.
Gareth Gates had other number ones including Spirit In The Sky, Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake), as well as the duet with Will Young -The Long and Winding Road.
Gareth Gates released the album Pictures Of The Other Side in 2007.
Gareth Gates overcame a stammer to gain his musical success and in 2004 he himself qualified as a speech coach.
In July 2008 Gareth Gates married Suzanne Mole, whom he met at the Record of the Year awards in 2002.
In 2008, in Dancing on Ice, Gareth Gates partnered Maria Filippov.
Gareth and Maria did well and finished fourth in Dancing on Ice, narrowly missing out on the final after losing a skate-off to Zaraah Abrahams and Fred Palascak.
In February 2009, Gareth Gates was set to replace Lee Mead in the lead role in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in London's West End.

On 6 April 2009, Gareth Gates's wife Suzanne gave birth to a baby girl, Missy.
In the July edition of Cosmopolitan Gareth Gates posed naked to raise awareness of testicular and prostate cancer.
Gareth Gates was selected to be one of the all-stars to appear in the final series of Dancing on Ice in 2014. This time he was partnered by Brianne Delcourt.
