Dmitry Chaplin was just 12 when he began his ballroom dancing career in Rostov on-Don in Russia.

Later he moved to the USA and was trained in the USA and UK by amongst others, Louis Van Amstel and Shirley Ballas.

Dmitry Chaplin represented the U.S. at ballroom competitions and in 2002 won the English Open Championships and was a semi-finalist in the 2003 International Open to the World and the Dutch Open World Championships.

In 2006 Dmitry Chaplin was a finalist in the U.S. National Championships.

In the same year, he joined the cast of So You Think You Can Dance and returned the following year to choreograph for the show in the U.S and internationally.

In Dancing with the Stars season 9, Dmitry Chaplin partnered Mya to second place.

In Dancing with the Stars season 8, professional dancer Dmitry Chaplin was to partner Jewel, however, in training, Jewel was diagnosed with a fractured tibia in both legs, and had to pull out.

Instead, Dmitry Chaplin ended up partnering Holly Madison. They were voted off in week 4 of Dancing with the Stars.
