Ty Murray's Biography
His prowess earned him the nickname King of the Cowboys.
Ty Monroe Murray was born in Phoenix, Arizona. His father, Butch, was a rodeo hand and racetrack starter, and his mother, Joy, rode bulls in the National Little Britches Rodeo Association.
Ty Murray was 9 when he got on his first bull and started riding when he was 13.
On December 13, 1998, Ty Murray overtook his hero Larry Mahan, and gained a record-breaking seventh All-Around World Championship title.
Murray then shifted his attention to riding bulls and won the 1999 PBR Finals.
In Dancing with the Stars season 8, Ty Murray partnered Chelsie Hightower.
Ty and Chelsie finished fourth.
Ty Murray retired from competition but runs a 2100 acre ranch in Stephenville, Texas together with his wife and fellow Dancing with the Stars celebrity Jewel (although Jewel had to pull out of Dancing with the Stars when she discovered both of her legs were fractured).
In January 2011 Ty Murray and Jewel revealed they were expecting a baby.
