Jay Blades's Biography

Who is Jay Blades?

Jay is a furniture restorer and television presenter, who founded Jay & Co, a social enterprise that helps disadvantaged and disengaged groups.

He heralds from Hackney in east London.

Although he left school at 15, Jay gained a BA in Criminology and Philosophy at Buckinghamshire New University, which is where he met his wife Jade.

Previously, for 15 years, Jay and Jade Blades ran the social enterprise Out of the Dark, based in High Wycombe.

In June 2021 he was made an MBE.

In 2024, West Mercia Police issued a statement, "Fifty-four year-old Jason Blades of Claverley in Wolverhampton has been charged with controlling and coercive behaviour." in regard to his estranged wife Lisa Zbozen.

He has been an expert on Gok’s Fill Your House For Free.

His other TV appearances include This Morning, Money For Nothing and The Repair Shop.

In 2018 Jay Blades became one of the contestants on Celebrity Masterchef.

In 2020, the BBC announced that The Repair Shop would move to a prime BBC One slot.

In May 2020, BBC One commissioned a new series Jay Blades' Home Fix.

In 2022, he presented a documentary series on Channel Five called No Place Like Home, which explored the areas of his childhood such as Hackney and Bethnal Green.

His production company Hungry Jay makes the Channel 5 series No Place Like Home.

Jay Blades - Making It

In 2021, he wrote an autobiography entitled Making It, in which Jay Blades revealed how he had overcome homelessness, an absent father and racism to get to the stage where he was appearing on Money for Nothing and The Repair Shop.
