Who is Spoony?

Jonathan Joseph started being called Spoony at school, which he told BBC Manchester he joined quite late and "all the kids there used to go around saying oh doesn't he look like Spoony (this older kid)- Big Spoony...I became little Spoony."

Spoony grew up on a housing estate in Hackney and worked at JobCentres before a friend got him to DJ at a youth centre.

Spoony then gave up recruitment and started work for a pirate radio.

He then hosted shows for Kiss FM and Galaxy Radio.

Spoony got involved in several projects as a member of the Dreem Teem (with Timmi Magic and Mikee B). They broadcast That Dreem Teem Thing from their flat in Bethnal Green and it was transmitted on Play UK.

Also as part of the Dreem Teem, Spoony hosted The Soulful Sessions in the very early hours of Sunday Morning on Radio 1 where Spoony also presented the morning show at weekends.

Sue Arnold gave Spoony a glowing review in The Observer's collection of radio Turn Ons, she wrote:

"Garage freaks stay in on Sunday mornings to listen to Dreem Teem presenters Timmi Magic, Mikee B and DJ Spoony. And the greatest of these is Spoony. With his motormouth and in-yer-face personality he drives the team and has lately focused his charismatic talent elsewhere. Last year he did a couple of investigative reports for Radio 5 Live, one about Chicago street gangs, another about racism in football ..."

Spoony, who chairs Radio Five Live's football phone-in 606 on Wednesday nights, is a keen golfer.

In 2001, Spoony was awarded a MOBO for DJ of the year.

In Strictly Come Dancing, Spoony danced with Aleksandra 'Ola' Jordan. In spite of getting decent comments from the judges, Spoony was the third celebrity voted off Strictly Come Dancing.
