Gillian Taylforth was born on 14 August 1955 in London to Marge and Ronnie, who was a master printer.

Gillian Taylforth's TV credits include playing Kathy Beale / Kathy Mitchell in EastEnders, Jackie Pascoe / Jackie Webb in Footballers' Wives and Sergeant Nikki Wright in The Bill.

In 2008 Gillian Taylforth left The Bill to spend more time with her daughter, who had recently been seriously injured in a car crash.

Taylforth's major breakthrough came when she started playing Kathy Beale in EastEnders. She had the role from the soap's start in 1985 until 1998.

She returned briefly to the role the following year.

In 1994, Gillian Taylforth lost a famous libel action against The Sun, which had claimed that she and her partner Geoff Knights had performed sexual acts in a slip road of the A1 motorway.

Gillian Taylforth's other TV credits include the comedies Jane Hall and The House That Jack Built.

Gillian's sister, Kim Taylforth is also an actress.

In the 2008 series of Strictly Come Dancing, Gillian Taylforth partnered Anton du Beke.

However, Gillian was the first female celebrity voted off the show, when she and Anton left Strictly Come Dancing in week two.

In June 2009, it was reported that Gillian Taylforth had broken up with her boyfriend Geoff Knights.

In January 2013, she became of the contestants on Celebrity Big Brother.

In July 2017, the BBC revealed that Gillian Taylforth earned over £150,000 from licence fee revenue in their financial year 2016/7.
