Natalie Coughlin was born on August 23, 1982 in Emeryville, California.

Coughlin graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a psychology degree.

Natalie Coughlin went on to become a top-class swimmer and the most decorated female athlete of both the 2008 Beijing and 2004 Athens Games.

In 2008 Coughlin became the first American female athlete to win six medals in one Olympiad (gold in the 100m back; silver in the 4x100m free relay, 4x200m free relay and 4x100m medley; bronze in the 100m free and 200m IM).

Natalie Coughlin also became the first woman to win consecutive individual Olympic gold medals in the 100m backstroke with victories in Athens and Beijing.

Her hobbies include cooking and photography.

In Dancing with the Stars series 9, Natalie Coughlin danced with Alec Mazo. They were the 6th couple to be eliminated and seventh couple to leave the series.
