Nicola Adams's Biography

Nicola Adams came to widespread public attention when she won gold in the London Olympics 2012 in the women's flyweight category. She repeated the achievement in Rio 2016.

Adams took to boxing from an early age and her mother worked several jobs to fund her training. Nicola herself worked for her stepfather’s painting and decorating business.

She came out as gay to her mother when she was about 14 years old.

She was appointed MBE in the 2013 New Year’s Honours list and then OBE in the 2016 New Year’s Honours list.

From 2017 to 2019 she boxed as a professional, and retired with an undefeated record holding the WBO female flyweight title.Her retirement in November 2019 was forced when she damaged a pupil in her last fight.

In 2020 she became one of the celebrities on Strictly Come Dancing and became part of the first ever all female pairing on Strictly when she was partnered by Katya Jones.

However on 12 November, it was revealed that the pair had to pull out of Strictly as Katya Jones had a positive Covid-19 test.

Nicola Adams's girlfriend, Ella Baig, is a model.

In February 2022, they announced they were expecting a baby.
