Who is Johnny Ball?

Johnny Ball was born on 23 May 1938 in Bristol.

He is the father of Zoe Ball and followed in her footsteps by becoming a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.

Before becoming a TV presenter, Johnny Ball was a Butlins Redcoat.

He co-presented Play School from 1964 to 1988 and then went on to host his own science and maths programmes for children including Think of a Number which ran from 1977–1984 as well as the likes of Think Again (1981-85) and Johnny Ball Reveals All (1989-94).

Johnny Ball has also written a number of children's books and educational stage musicals.

In 2012, he was paired with Aliona Vilani in Strictly Come Dancing series 10.

Aliona fractured her ankle in training before the first Strictly programme, and so for the early stages of the competition, Johnny Ball was to be partnered by Iveta Lukosiute.

As it transpired, Johnny and Iveta were eliminated in the first round.
