David Benjamin James was born on 1 August 1970 in Welwyn Garden City.
The former England goalkeeper started as a trainee at Watford before being transferred to Liverpool for £1 million.
Subsequently he played for Aston Villa, West Ham, Manchester City and Portsmouth.
Whilst at Portsmouth David James became the goalkeeper with the most Premier League appearances. He also kept the most clean sheets.
He then had relatively short stints at Bristol City, Bournemouth, IBV Vestmannaeyjar in Iceland and Kerala Blasters in India.
David James made 53 appearances for England.
In 2019, he became one of the celebrities on Strictly Come Dancing.
He was paired with Nadiya Bychkova. They were the fourth couple to be voted off.
