Paul Merson was an attacking midfielder who most notably played for Arsenal and gained 21 caps for England.

His successful stint at Arsenal, which included winning the league twice and the EUFA Cup, was punctuated in 1994 when he admitted to having addictions to alcohol, cocaine and gambling.

However, after a rehabiltation program, he resumed his career staying with Arsenal until he was sold to Middlesborough at the end of the 1996-7 season.

Paul gave a very open account of his addictions to Recoverlution.

After his stint at Middlesborough, Paul played for a variety of clubs until he turned to broadcasting, most notably becoming a regular pundit on Sky's Soccer Saturday.

In 2024, Paul Merson became one of the celebrities on Strictly Come Dancing.

His father had been on QPR's books.
