Tom Dean was born in London on 2 May 2000, and grew up in Maidenhead.

He started swimming from an early age and joined the British Swimming National Centre Bath in 2018.

Tom had a stunning Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 (delayed by one year because of Covid), swimming to gold in the 200m freestyle, just ahead of Duncan Scott. It had been over 100 years since Great Britain had won gold and silver in the same swimming event.

He also won gold in the men's 4x200 metre freestyle relay, becoming the first male British swimmer to win two gold medals at the same Olympics in more than 100 years.

Tom Dean was made an MBE in the 2022 New Year Honours.

In Paris in 2024, Tom won Olympic gold again with the 4x200m freestyle GB team - it was the same four that had won the gold in Tokyo.

In 2024, he became one of the celebrities on Strictly Come Dancing. He was paired with Nadiya Bychkova.

They were the first couple to be eliminated.
