Sam Quek was born on 18 October 1988 in the Wirral.

Her father is from Singapore, and her mother is English.

Whilst at school she enjoyed hockey and joined the Mini Panthers in Wirral.

She also played football for Tranmere Rovers' reserves.

She opted to focus on hockey and won her first international cap against Argentina in 2008.

She gained a BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science in 2010 from Leeds Beckett University.

A defender, Sam Quek was not selected for the 2008 and 2012 Olympics but was part of the gold-medal winning GB women's hockey team in Rio 2016.

The previous year she had suffered a rib injury and it had looked doubtful whether she would make Rio.

Sam Quek goes out with Tom Mairs, owner of Antona Student Properties, who was featured in Secret Millionaire.

Sam and Tom both went to Calday Grange Grammar School, but were in different years and did not meet until later in life.

In November 2016, Sam Quek became one of the contestants on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

She came fourth.

In 2019, she started co-hosting BBC Radio 5 Live's 606 football programme along with Robbie Savage.

In 2020, she became one of the celebrities on Celebrity Masterchef. She got to the finals, but in the words of The Radio Times: "blew the final by being late to finish".
